The clash between Corporate America and Motherhood

So I have not written in a while or taken the time to jot down thoughts due to on-boarding a new client at work and potty training.  CRAZY right.  Two major events happening at once.

I decided I needed to vent out my major concern with corporate america and the mom.  I didn’t notice how bad things were until Baby #2 was on the way! (super excited)  I announced it to the head of my department and the response was more like “oh its fine its fine, we will figure it out.”  Stunned!

So many questions go thru my mind at this point.  Are women being penalized for starting a family? Should you be shady towards someone because of their choices.  I have waited my entire life to have children and it appears that my job frowns upon that very thing.  Rather than being supportive they wanted to know right away when I was coming back from leave, how long would I take off etc.  It did not inspire confidence at all.  Instead I am left wondering why should I work for a company like this and why aren’t expanding families considered HUGE blessings.  I also am running around working like crazy because I feel like I need to be PERFECT at everything and that my company is doing me a favor by ‘”letting” me go out on leave.  It’s quitepaid_maternity_leave insane.  I find myself working longer days, nights and even on the weekends just to prove that I am still committed and going hard.

It feels like I am being penalized because I am pregnant.  I am almost sure that no one else works this hard nor has to go thru so many hoops just to prove themselves.  But then I also noticed that when men announce their wife is pregnant they get promoted and their leave time is celebrated.  Strange very very Strange.

So…now that I got this out.  I am done with the foolishness! No more killing myself for a company.  I will do anything for my family and quite frankly WHO WOULDN’T!!

I hope that this is an isolated situation and that lots of women don’t find this to be true too.

15 months…too soon to start potty training

So I noticed that my daughter is now going into the bathroom and standing by the toliet randomly. I was scratching my head like hmmm what is she doing. Is it possible that she is ready to start potty training?? Can that really be the case??

Seems a bit early but I am one of those people who pays attention to signed so I went ahead and purchased two different pottys. One for home and one for travel!!

Always gotta be prepared!!

Attending a Pool Party Post Baby

I’m headed to a pool party for work. 😦 YUCK!  But I did find some success when I found a swimsuit that is post baby body friendly.  I still think I will be wearing a sundress and hoping no one notices that extra pounds around my mid section!! I am working on it though! Signed up for weight watchers this week and I hope to find success there!

Check them out here.

Words to Inspire: In a child’s eyes

“In a child’s eyes, a mother is a goddess. She can be glorious or terrible, benevolent or filled with wrath, but she commands love either way. I am convinced that this is the greatest power in the universe.”
N.K. Jemisin, The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms

Always carry batteries

Today I traveled for the first time and left the baby with grandma.   It was a simple day trip.   I did them all the time before she was born for work.

But today.

I got up almost 3 hours before I needed to get her ready and then myself.   She was fine by my biggest task was where was I going to pump.   I was only taking a 2 hour 20 min train.

Well I made it thru the ride down and my client visit and back to the train station and thought I was going to explode if I touched my chest!   Where were the outlets… Where was a bathroom that had a place for private??  Didn’t this exist?   I got desperate and went to the ticket line and begged the clerk for a private place.   A private place didn’t exist…

The story ended with me buying batteries… Putting them in the pump and then crouching down in a stall to pump.  Annoying but the job was done.
I got back on the train and then went to pick up my daughter.  I thought to myself… Gosh life changes so fast!!

She barely ate… Which was awesome because I didn’t have to pump again ad just fed her.

Breastfeeding by its nature attaches you and requires you to get relief from one another.   I got the rocky feeling relieved and she got her nourishment.

Sheesh… Long day!

How Feminism Begat Intensive Mothering

Ideas

Feminism and motherhood have long been cast as feuding sisters, one always attempting to undermine the other. In this calculation, women had to choose between the independence, education and self-expression of the feminist path and the nurture, sacrifice and child-centricity of the family path. The more feminist a woman is, the less appetite, it has been suggested, she will have for mothering.

Ironically, however, the opposite is true.

Women’s rising social and economic power has not squelched their desire to be mothers. Quite the opposite: it has enabled women to mother with ferocity. They research; they seek out best practices; they join a group, form a committee and agitate for their version of feeding/disciplining/sleeping. If you don’t believe me, just visit a breast-feeding support group with former litigators, marketing executives and investment bankers. Reluctant sucklers don’t stand a chance.
